About Lia

Lia Andes has been writing songs since her early childhood. Lia was born in Germany and grew up in London. She later studied classical singing and jazz singing in Berlin. As a jazz and soul singer, Lia was active in various bands and won a prize at the Jazz and Blues Award in Berlin with her “Lia Andes Quartet”.

She recorded several live and studio CDs with producer Rudy Stevenson, who also worked with Nina Simone, among others. In 2019, she and her band organized a tribute concert with his compositions in Berlin for his 90th birthday. Lia has worked in various musicals such as The Hunchback of Notre-Dame in Berlin, Phantom of the Opera and the world premiere production of Mozart in Vienna. She appeared, among other things, in the operetta Operette Hochzeitsnacht im Paradies (Wedding Night in Paradise) at the Karlshorst Theater in Berlin and sang the soprano parts in Mozart's Requiem and Fauré's Requiem in Rome and gave opera and song recitals.

Lia has developed various stage shows/programs over the years such as: Bluespirit in the Philharmonie Berlin; Pure Spirit in the Admiralspalast Berlin and Voice-Tap.

Under her label bluespirit records, Lia released her first singer/songwriter album Sie lebt (She lives) in 2015. The title Verstummt ist mein Kummer (Silenced is my sorrow) was also released as a download single and as a music video on YouTube.

From January 2015 to November 2016, Lia sang with women, children and young people in an emergency shelter for refugees in Wilmersdorf and Mariendorf in Berlin. She shared her impressions in a blog as a diary: A nice experience.

In 2019 she started the Lia @ Sally's concert series, where she presented various programs with special guests every second Wednesday at Sally Bowles Berlin. Lia's new singer songwriter album Hier und jetzt (Here and Now) was released at the end of 2019. Two music videos from this album, Erkenntnis and Plastik, as well as a Medley/Making of Video for the recordings from the Here and Now album can be seen on YouTube.

March 2020, Lia started the LIA & CORonA project, in which she wrote a new song every week and sang it unplugged at home and presented it on YouTube. For the Fete de la Musique, she presented her 12 songs, created in 12 weeks of quarantine, on Facebook. In total, Lia wrote around 30 new songs during the 2020-22 Corona lockdown, which she shared with her fans as YouTube home videos, including live concerts at Christmas, or as a digital Christmas calendar.

Every Sunday in 2022, Lia also walked across Tempelhofer Feld with her guitar and sang for peace: Singing for peace.

In cooperation with the bassist and arranger Carmelo Leotta, string arrangements for some of their new songs have been created since the end of 2020. Eine Rose für dich (A rose for you) and Not big enough whale are already published. Her new album String Fantasy will be released soon.

Since the beginning of November, Lia Andes has been playing the Grandmother and Affi in the musical world premiere production ANOUK by Peter Maffay and Hedrikje Balsmeyer at the Varieté Theater GOP in Hanover with great success. In February 2025, the production will go on tour with the entire cast (Sarah Lamringer, Lia Andes, Alina Hill, Mathias Meffert, and Ambrosio Vinello).
